Because Cornwall is so long and narrow, Truro is where a lot of first dates end up: close enough for people from Falmouth, Redruth, St Austell and Newquay, and easy to reach by car or train.
The small city the whole county comes into
A good part of Cornwall already travels into Truro for something. The hospital at Treliske, the council offices, the shops on Boscawen Street and the stations bring people in from every direction, and they know the roads and the parking. That makes the city a fair choice for two people who live on opposite sides of mid Cornwall: neither of you is on the other's home turf, and neither has the longer trip by much.
It also means Truro is small enough that you may well have friends in common. Most people here find that reassuring rather than awkward, and it is one more reason to keep a first meeting simple and public.
Getting into Truro for a date
| Coming from | The usual way in |
|---|---|
| Falmouth and Penryn | The branch line or the A39 |
| Redruth and Camborne | The main line or the A30 |
| St Austell | The main line or the A390 |
| Newquay | By road across to the A30 |
| Penzance and Hayle | The main line, the longest of these trips |
If one of you comes by train, meet near the station or in the centre and the evening takes care of itself.

My life really does revolve around my children right now. So I’d like to meet someone who can help me get a life 😂 much as I love them. Banter is a must! I love food both eating and cooking, so don’t be expecting some skinny maid cos I’m not. I enjoy reading, TV, and trying new things which I need to do more of. Keen to try things like maybe a pottery date, jewellery making, museum/gallery trips, etc. Clearly, what I’ve been doing up to now hasn’t worked, so I’m going the opposite way and putting myself out there a bit more and opening my mind to more. God I’ve waffled on there! So if you’ve got to this point, well done and sorry for boring you 😂😂

Truro singles with their feet on the ground
Truro has more members than any other Cornish town on Westcountry Singles. What stands out is the mix: people in their late thirties and early forties and people in their late forties and early fifties are there in equal measure, and alongside them sits an unusually large group past retirement age, bigger here than in almost any town we cover. People in their late fifties and early sixties are fewer, and there is hardly anyone under thirty-five. If you are older and wondering whether you will find anyone your age, the answer in Truro is yes.
Over 40 and want a site built around that? Mature Westcountry Singles is our sister site, with the same Cornish towns.
Ideas for a first meeting in Truro
The streets around the cathedral have cafés and restaurants within a few minutes of each other. For a walk, the river and the gardens around the edge of the city are close by, and the coast is never far.
Victoria Gardens is a quiet place for a stroll that starts and ends in the centre. Boscawen Park, down by the river on the road out towards Malpas, is good for a longer walk and a sit-down when the tide is in. If a second date wants sea air, Pendennis Point and the beaches at Falmouth are a short trip south, and our first date ideas have plenty more for the region. Read our tips for meeting safely before the first one.
The area around Truro
Falmouth, Penryn, Redruth, Camborne, St Austell and Newquay all share a search with Truro. Members further west often include Penzance and Helston too. Penryn's university campus brings in a younger crowd, but on this site they are few, so most Truro members set a wider radius and go for people near their own age.
