Bath Dating

It's almost impossible not to find romance in Bath. The Romans came and fell in love with the spot in around 60AD and decided to build a city on the now famous hot springs. Tourists and locals have been falling in love here ever since and, in more modern times, with the city's vibrant restaurant and bar scene it's easy to see why.

In the summertime, Bath's many parks can provide the perfect spot for an al fresco date with a picnic. The city's Parade Gardens offers live bandstand music on Sunday afternoons in the summertime and is a lovely spot by the weir for dating couples. Likewise, Royal Victoria Park with its botanical gardens and sweeping lawn in front of the famous Royal Crescent cannot is a good place for a romantic stroll.

For a dinner date to impress, try Hudson Bar & Grill, one of the city's most popular restaurants famous for 28-day aged steaks and a chic but unpretentious atmosphere. You can often see members of the Bath rugby team wining and dining here - so it must be good! Valerie from Bath, who met Sam through westcountrysingles.co.uk went there for their second date. "We met in a local pub for a quiet drink the first time. Both of us had been single for a long time and weren't used to dating and we agreed we would only stay for an hour on the first date. But we got on so well that Sam suggested we try Hudson for our second date. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt very left alone - in a good way!"

Hudson is at the top end of the budget, however, so if you want plenty of nice vibes but less strain on the wallet you could try the Firehouse Rotisserie on John Street. This light and bright venue is always bustling and the friendly staff specialise in serving up Californian cuisine and rotisserie grill food at sensible prices. Just a few doors down the street is the brilliant Mini Bar, one of the Bath's best kept secrets. This tiny Spanish tapas bar is modern and funky and has just a dozen stools around the edge of the room making it intimate and special.

A stone's throw from the train station in Bath is Widcombe High Street, a row of neighbourhood shops and no less than three good restaurants including The Ring O Bells and one of our favourite dating haunts at westcountrysingles.co.uk The White Hart. This is the perfect relaxed gastropub for an easy first date and it has a lovely garden for summertime drinking.

Hot bars in the city for dating and meeting other singles that you can meet on westcountrysingles.co.uk include cocktail Mecca Sub 13, the relaxed and super friendly Adventure Cafe and the intimate and funky Bar Central. Old favourites such as The Pitcher and Piano and The Slug and Lettuce are brilliant, safe choices for a fool-proof first date hit - especially if you can bag one of their squishy sofas-for-two at The Slug or one of the bench seats in the window at The Pitcher so you can sit and watch the world go by as you sip your wine or beer.

The basement bar at Gasgoyne Place is a good option for dating - go on a Sunday evening when they have live jazz. Or for something a little more exotic try Yum Yum Thai near the Theatre Royal for simply what many Bathites consider is the best Asian food in the city.
