Speed dating in Truro, or a whole county at your own pace
People often come to us after looking for speed dating in Truro. It is easy to see the appeal. The trouble in Cornwall is that the people you would most like to meet might live forty minutes away down a lane with no bus, and they may be busy on that one Thursday.
Online, they are a message away. You can read about someone before you say hello, take a few days over the conversation and meet when you are both ready. If you like the idea of a group evening too, our page on singles events for over 50s looks at what to expect.
Halfway for almost everyone
Truro's great gift to Cornish dating is geography. With the main roads and the railway running through it, the city is roughly central for the whole of mid and west Cornwall. When two people live twenty miles apart in opposite directions, Truro is usually where they meet.
Falmouth and the Fal
Falmouth has a lively group of members of its own, and the stretch of water between the town and Truro, with Feock, Mylor and Penryn along its banks, is some of the loveliest country in the county.
Redruth and Camborne
The old mining towns sit a few miles apart, and members there often search towards Truro and Hayle in equal measure. Carn Brea, with its monument on top, watches over both.
St Austell and the clay country
East of the city, St Austell, Mevagissey and the harbour at Charlestown make a natural group, and the drive to Truro is straightforward.
Newquay and the north coast
Newquay and Perranporth are on the other side of the county's spine, yet only half an hour or so from the city. Plenty of north coast members are happy to meet in the middle.

With a love for deep conversations over a drink, I'm ready to find a charming gentleman who can keep up with my adventurous spirit. If you can make me laugh and enjoy life's little pleasures, we just might have some fun together!

I am lucky to live right by the estuary and love being by the sea. I enjoy cooking for fun and traveling. I like to spend spare time at my local lake fishing. I'm a non-smoker and drink rarely. I enjoy an evening out and a quiet night in just as much. I really value truth and honesty. I think of myself as honest and loyal, and I would like to meet someone the same.

The people you will get to know
The Truro area is a settled, grown-up crowd. Most members are in their late fifties or sixties, with a strong group over 65 and a smaller one in their late forties and early fifties. Men and women are close to even in the city itself, and across Cornwall as a whole there are slightly more men than women, so single women in mid Cornwall tend to have a good choice.
Some have been in Cornwall all their lives, others moved down for the life after a long career elsewhere, and quite a few are dating again for the first time since a marriage ended or a partner died. If that is you, our page on dating over 60 talks about starting again with care.
Where to meet in and around Truro
The cathedral is the obvious landmark and the city centre around it, with Lemon Street and the cobbled lanes near the river, is compact enough that nobody gets lost. A coffee in the centre is the simplest first date there is.
If you would rather walk, Boscawen Park follows the river on the edge of the city and is flat, open and always has people about. In Falmouth, the walk round Castle Drive under Pendennis Castle to Gyllyngvase Beach is a favourite for a reason. Up at Newquay, a stroll out to Towan Head on a calm day gives you sea on three sides. And for two people who already know they get on, the harbour at Charlestown makes an unhurried afternoon.
Cornish lanes are dark early in winter. Choose a daytime meeting, drive yourself, and tell a friend where you are going. Our safety advice covers the rest, and our first date ideas have more for the South West.
