Before you meet
- Keep conversations on the site until you are comfortable. There is no need to hurry.

- A short phone or video call before meeting is a sensible way to check someone is genuine.
Romance scams: the warning signs
- They ask for money, gift cards or bank details, for any reason at all.
- They quickly want to move you off the site to text or email.
- They always have a reason they cannot meet or video call.
- Their story involves working abroad, a sudden emergency or an inheritance.
If you see any of these, stop replying and report the profile. You can also report fraud to Action Fraud.
The first date
- Meet somewhere public, busy and in daylight.
- Tell a friend or family member where you are going and when you expect to be home.
- Arrange your own transport.
- If something feels wrong, leave. You do not owe anyone an explanation.
Reporting and blocking
You can block or report any member from their profile. If you believe you are in danger, call 999.
