Mature Dating in Plymouth: Meet Someone by the Sound

Plymouth singles in their forties, fifties and sixties are here, looking for someone nearby to walk the Hoe with. Find yours.

Plymouth is one of the three busiest towns on Mature Westcountry Singles, alongside Bristol and Exeter. Men and women are evenly matched in the city, and the age mix is younger than in the rest of Devon, with a healthy number of members in their forties and early fifties as well as plenty over 55. For Plymouth singles who want a local, grown-up dating site, there is real choice on your doorstep.

A city with a broader mix of ages

Most of Devon leans towards the over-60s. Plymouth is different. People in their late fifties and early sixties are still the biggest group, but those in their forties and early fifties make up a much bigger share than in Torbay or North Devon, and the over-65s are a little fewer. If you are 48 and worried that a mature site will be full of people twenty years older, Plymouth is reassuring.

The numbers of men and women are close to equal, which means nobody arrives to find the room lopsided. If you are in your sixties or beyond, you will still find plenty of people your own age, and our page on dating over 60 has some encouragement for anyone starting again.

Choosing between Plymouth dating sites

Search for Plymouth dating sites and you will find the big national names next to small local ones. A few things are worth checking before you join any of them:

  1. Are there real members near you, of your age, or mostly people in other cities?
  2. Can you prove you are genuine, and see who else has? Here, every member gets a free ID check that earns a badge.
  3. Does the site watch for scammers? Ours warns you when someone tries to move the chat to WhatsApp or email early on, and human moderators look at reports.
  4. Will it work on the phone you already own? This one runs in any browser and can sit on your home screen like an app.

A waterfront first date

Plymouth's best first date is outdoors and has a view. Meet on the Hoe, by Smeaton's Tower, where there is no chance of missing each other. Walk along the top looking out over the Sound towards Drake's Island and the breakwater, then drop down to the seafront and the Art Deco lido at Tinside, even if only to admire it.

From there it is a short wander round to the Barbican, with its cobbled streets, the old harbour and the Mayflower Steps. There is no shortage of places to stop for coffee or lunch. If the first hour has gone well, you can carry on another day to Royal William Yard, the handsome old naval buildings at Stonehouse, which have a waterside walk of their own.

Prefer green space to the sea? Central Park is large and easy to reach, and the parkland at Saltram, on the edge of Plympton, is a favourite for a longer stroll. More ideas are in our first date ideas for over 50s, and our safety page sets out the simple rules for meeting someone new.
